DescriptionThe globalization of the world leads to an increase in competition and dynamism of markets. To secure competitive advantage many organizations formulate a strategy where the use of information systems (IS) is obligatory to achieve the desired results. Additionally, information is seen as one of the most important factors influencing the future of organizations. Consequently, the employment of information technology (IT) is still on the increase.
The course provides a good understanding of the role of information technology in modern business life. The course was designed to give an overview of the most important applications of information technology. Teaching basic knowledge on technical and managerial aspects of business information systems is part of the course. The course covers most of the areas which are important to understand the basic technology-related managerial issues.

Course requirements and grading

Assignments:

Students have to prepare individual and group assignments for all of the topics, according to the detailed weekly program. Assignments have to be completed either during the classes or at home (depending on the lecturer’s instructions). Each complete and relevant paper handed in time equals 5 points. All assignments have to be answered and submitted on time (till the end of the class (if it was a class work) or till the beginning of the next class (if it was homework)). From the 12 submitted assignments only the 10 best results will make up the 50% of the final grade.

Assessment, grading:

Midterm and final exams are written exams. Both consist of multiple choice-test questions and essay questions. Midterm exam equals to 20 %, final exam equals 30% of the final grade.

Grades will be given according to the following pattern:

10 written class and home assignments (including both individual and group assignments):
